Fontenelle Forest Gate
Fontenelle Forest is located in Omaha, NE, for their new exhibit Raptor Woodland Refuge they wanted a local company to design a gate for the entrance of the raptor area and I came up with the concept they chose. The design encompasses a black tree motif in the background, which is similar to an existing pattern inside the main building, with the rusted primary wing feathers of a Barred Owl arranged in a line on the front. The trees mimic the depth of the surrounding forest and roosting place of the raptors. The feathers are a scientific nod to the Raptors housed within. The gate is 16 feet long and 10 feet at its highest point. One important design aspect is that the gates would only be closed at night, so I made sure the design was dynamic when opened and closed.
